Kilmessan's Nicky Horan has been selected as a half forward by Leinster's selectors ahead of Sunday's interprovincial clash against Ulster. It is a great honour for Horan who only last month represented Ireland in the Shinty Internationals against Scotland. The young Kilmessan man is widely regarded as the county's outstanding hurler and as such, his selection is over due. The national papers have greeted his selection as a surprise, given that he fails to come from a known hurling strong land. It is a petty angle from those who should know better. Mark Gannon and Paddy Kelly have been Leinster panel members in recent years, while the last Meath man to make a mark on the interprovincial series was Kildalkey's Pat Potterton. The ace sharpshooter played a key role as Leinster defeated Connacht in a final a couple of years ago. He scored a wonderful overhead goal, which turned out to be the winning score.
