Ballivor await their final foes

October 22, 2001
Goals were the difference as Ballivor qualified for the intermediate final but they don't yet know who their opposition will be as Castletown and Blackhall Gaels played out a thrilling draw in the other semi-final. Ballivor entered their game against Duleek as strong favourites but it took two first half goal to earn them a 2-11 to 0-14 win. Majors from Mairtin Doran and Terry Connor, who between them accounted for all but three of Ballivor's scores, meant that they led by 2-6 to 0-6 at the interval. Duleek made a spirited second half fight back and outscored their opponents in the final thirty minutes, but just could not get through for the goal they so badly needed. In Saturday's semi-final Blackhall Gaels looked set to make a final appearance until Barry Smyth pointed deep into stoppage time to earn Castletown a draw. Smyth hit nine fantastic points out of his side's tally of thirteen, while Blackhall Gaels managed to score 1-10. The sides will meet next weekend in the replay as the intermediate final is fixed for two weeks time as the under card to the senior final on November 4. It wasn't all disappointment for the Blackhall club over the weekend as their Junior C side won that championship with a 3-13 to 1-7 victory over Moynalvey in the final. Robert Cox with 1-5 and John Fitzgerald with two goals were the top scorers for the winners.
