Vacancy at full forward on U21s
March 26, 2004
Benny Reddy and his selectors have yet to decide who will wear the no. 14 jersey against Offaly U21's on Sunday 28th March after the team was named on Thursday 25th.
The team bears an uncanny similarity with the minor side of two years ago, with ironically few of Shane McEntee's minor team of 2001 still involved.
At least eight of the players who featured in the All-Ireland final defeat to Derry in 2002 will start the game with Meath fans pacing their faith in senior stars Brain Farrell and Joe Sheridan, who have been named as corner forwards.
Thomas O'Connor plays at centre back while the fourth senior panellist, Mark Ward, leads the attack from centre forward.
An interesting inclusion is that of Michael Burke of Longwood. The talented dual star is still a minor player but has forced his way onto the U21 side after a number of impressive performances in challenge games. It is obviously something that runs in the family, as his father Michael 'Stoney' played senior and minor for the Royal County on the same day against Longford in 1959.
The side is captained by Trim's Francis Murphy and the management will decide who takes the full forward jersey on the day on the game.
Meath (U21 v. Offaly) - R Nolan: J Geoghegan, C King, B O'Reilly: N McLoughlin, T O'Connor, J Melia; F Murphy, S Corrigan; M Burke, M Ward, T Farrelly, B Farrell, AN Other, J Sheridan.
