The Meath player who was charged with the alleged racial abuse of an opponent in the Leinster MFC semi-final has been exonerated by the Leinster Council.
Westmeath full back Israel Ilunga was sent off early in the second half of his side's win over Meath in Pairc Tailteann last month. Westmeath officials claimed that his player was racially abused and was sent off for retaliating.
Ilunga's card was subsequently overturned on appeal and the Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall clubman lined out in the provincial final defeat to Kildare.
Leinster Council launched an investigation into the claim of the alleged racial abuse and this week the provincial body exonerated the Meath player of the charge after a hearing by a special committee.
There has been much anger in Meath GAA circles that their player, who vehemently denied the charge from the off, was named by one media outlet in relationship to the charge.
