Meath manager Seamus McEnaney was an interested spectator as three of his county players played in this intermediate match played at sunny Rathkenny last Saturday evening.

Graham Reilly for St Colmcilles was almost unplayable for the first twenty minutes and was the main reason why his side led by 0-5 to 0-1 after a blistering start to the match. While Graham Geraghty started in the corner a switch to mid field after 20 minutes saw the Athboy side begin to get more possession around the middle and when Shane McAnarney popped up with a well taken goal only a point separated the sides. From there until half time the sides matched each other score for score and there was only a point between the sides at the half.

Straight after half time Graham Reilly put the Cilles two up again and then added another to put his side three clear. But Clann na nGael refused to panic and with McAnarney having a powerful game at half forward they began to get back into the match. A well worked move saw Graham Geraghty finish a great move off with a goal and this seemed to take the wind out of the St. Colmcille sails. Ciaran Fitzsimons and Darren Kelly in the Clan defence seemed to now have the measure of their men and this made scores hard to come by for the St Colmcilles side. Then a pivitol moment, a free which seemed well within Graham Reilly's range was take short but the Clan backs reacted well and cleared down field. Following a goal mouth scramble the ball ended in the Colmcilles net but the umpire did not immediately raise his flag. In scenes reminisent of Croke park last week Graham Geraghty debated with the referee and umpires but this time however he was happier with the result as the goal stood, however who scored it was unclear.

A well taken free from Clans other county man McAnarney plus a John Daly point from play ended the scoring. Clan na ngael now face the other un beaten side in the group Moynalvey to see who will top the group. Tweet
