SFC: St. Peter's battle to secure narrow win

May 17, 2011

Dunboyne's David Clarke has the ball as St Pats Ciaran Calvey moves in during the Meayth SFC clash at Pairc Tailteann.
A gritty second half performance from St. Peter's Dunboyne saw them overcome St. Pat's in Round 3 of the Meath Senior Football Championship on Sunday afternoon in Pairc Tailteann.

It was St. Pat's who started the brightest, racing into a five point lead early on with a fine display of point taking including a long range free from centre forward Barry Campbell before Dunboyne got off the mark through a Ger Robinson free. Four further St. Pat's points in the first half gave them a six point lead at half-time with St. Peter's only managing two more frees in the opening period.

St. Peter's started the second half strongly and a burst of five unanswered points brought them to within a point before St. Pat's attempted to steady the ship with a fine point from play. Four more unanswered points set St. Peter's on their way to victory and a late St. Pat's point was not enough to catch the eventual winners.

Best for St. Peter's were Ger Barry, Colm Brennan, David Clarke and Gerry Gallagher.

St. Peter's: P. Curran, S. Hogan, David Gallagher (0-01), G. Timoney, C. Brennan, T. O'Connor, G. Barry, G. Gallagher, C. Berrigan, G. Robinson (0-06, 5 frees), S. McGarrell, S. Moran, D. Clarke (0-02), N. Crawford (0-02), G. Watters (0-01). Subs: S. McKenna for G. Timoney, Denis Gallagher for S. Moran
