Gary Watters contributed 1-4 from play as Dunboyne saw off a late Walterstown rally to claim the Meath Farm Machinery SFC Group C spoils at Ratoath on Saturday evening.

Dunboyne have two wins from as many starts while this loss represents Walterstown's second defeat of the campaign.

Watters' 44th minute goal completed his scoring haul and he followed that up by placing Craig Berrigan for Dunboyne's final score shortly after.

That left it 1-10 to 0-5 and Robbie Brennan's men looked set for a double-figure points advantage.

A couple of Charles McCarthy points from frees added to one from play by Mark Reynolds cut the gap to five points by the 58th minute.

Then Ger Robinson's clever flick was almost found the Walterstown net. When play moved to the road goal, Cathal Hennelly placed Tom Walsh for a well-taken goal with the hour almost up.

There were no further scores, but McCarthy was wide from a scoreable free in the first of three minutes of stoppage time.

In the end Walterstown were left to rue a dozen wides while Dunboyne had half that. Apart from a brief spell in the early stages, the eventual winners were never headed.

Nigel Crawford's ninth minute point gave Dunboyne a lead they didn't cash in. With Watters' leading the way they went 0-6 to 0-2 clear by the 22nd minute.

In first-half stoppage time, Crawford had a point crossed off on the word of a linesman and Dunboyne lead by 0-6 to 0-3 at the break.

Walterstown rallied from the restart but an Alban Crosbie free was they had to show for five minutes of dominance.

A more economical Dunboyne pushed on with a brace of pointed Robinson frees and another Watters' effort.

The winners' goal came after Ronan Barry parried Watters' initial effort but the Walterstown 'keeper had no chance with the follow-up.
