Gaeil Colmcille 1-11
Dunderry 0-10
Dunderry got their IFC campaign off to a disappointing defeat as Gaeil Colmcille edged out in this eagerly contested game in Bohermeen on Saturday evening.
Again, Dunderry got off to a sluggish start and were 0-5 to 0-0 down after the opening 10 minutes with the Kells men excelling with excellent forward play. Corner forward Simon Carty finally got the men in black and white off the mark with a fine point on 14 minutes.
Gaeil Colmcille had the majority of possession for the rest of the half but Dunderry never gave up & with three further points from full forward TJ Garry (2 frees), Dunderry clawed back the deficit & went into the break 0-4 to 0-6 in arrears.
Dunderry stormed out of the blocks at the resumption and with two pointed frees from Keith Callaghan & TJ Garry obtained parity 0-6 to 0-6 after 33 minutes. However they could not maintain this momentum as the Kells man knocked over two further points in response to their opponents after 41 minutes.
On the 43rd minute, however, the game had its turning point. The Gaeil Colmcille number 13 was allowed the freedom of the pitch and despite a half block from Damien Clarke, the ball found its way to the Dunderry net. That left the score 1-8 to 0-6 & the Kells men were not to be caught after this.
Dunderry fought bravely to the end with four pointed frees from the impressive Keith Callaghan. However that elusive goal would not come for the Dunderry men and will need a quick response against St Michaels if they are to remain a force in this years IFC campaign.
Best for Dunderry were Colm Harte, Simon Carty and Peader Callaghan.
