SFC quarter-final: Rathkenny through in extra-time

Rathkenny overcame Duleek/Bellewstown in Pairc Tailteann after extra-time, in the last of the quarter-final ties of the Meath Farm Machinery SFC, last Sunday evening August 22nd.
Duleek/Bellestown were quickest out of the blocks with two early scores on four and six minutes.
Rathkenny veteran Donal Curtis steadied the North Meath side with a point on eleven minutes. The men in green extended their lead a minute later, before Brian Meade reduced the gap on fourteen minutes.
Duleek/Bellewstown scored again before Brian Meade again reduced the arrears with a fine score. There were three scores in the final three minutes of the opening half with Duleek/Bellewstown scoring their fifth point on twenty eight minutes, before Rathkenny replied with a rasping goal from Richie Timmons that flew into the top corner, followed up by a Damien McBride point to leave Rathkenny leading 1-4 to 0-5 at the break.
Rathkenny started the second half with a John Donegan point and another from Donal Curtis. Duleek/Bellewsown popped over three unanswered scores from frees to leave the minimum between the sides again. John Donegan extended Rathkennys lead with five minutes remaining but Duleek/Bellewstown pointed a minute later and in the second minute of injury time popped over an equaliser to leave it 1-7 to 0-10 at full time.
The floodlights came on for extra time and two minutes into that extra time Duleek/Bellewstown took the lead but it was to prove to be their final score. Richie Timmons levelled matters to leave it 1-8 to 0-11 at the end of the first half of extra time.
Brian Meade put Rathkenny back in front three minutes into second half extra time before a Timmons free extended the lead. Brian Meade then popped over again to leave the men in red and black three clear and try as they might Duleek/Bellewstown could not get the scores and Rathkenny ran out winners.
