SFC: Dunboyne overcome tenacious Trim
May 31, 2010
Dunboyne 0-12
Trim 1-8
Dunboyne overcame a dogged Trim side to post their third win in Group B of the Meath Farm Machinery SFC at Summerhill on Sunday afternoon to book a last eight spot.
Robbie Brennan¹s charges were five points in arrears after 22 minutes but there was an eight turnaround leaving Dunboyne three points to the good by the 54th minute.
Trim pulled back points through Derek Donoghue (free) and Eoin McGrath but couldn¹t avail of the chances that presented themselves to grab a levelling score.
Playing towards the pavillion end, Trim opened brightly with a Ciaran Joyce
point that was quickly followed by Donoghue goal.
The first of Eoin McGrath¹s three points from play left it 1-2 to 0-0 ten minutes in and odds against Darren Fay's charges pulling off a shock result and posting their first win of the campaign were shortening.
Nigel Crawford got Dunboyne off the mark and having started at corner-forward soon moved to midfield to dig his side out.
Trim remained on the front foot and when Donoghue pointed from play it was 1-4 to 0-2 in the 18th minute.
The team in red and white didn't register for the remainder of the half as Dunboyne cut the gap with points from Craig Berrigan, Ger Robinson (45) and Crawford to trail by 0-5 to 1-4 at the break.
Within ten minutes of the restart the scores were tied for the first time courtesy of Denis Gallagher and Robinson.
Trim regained the lead through sub Neil Heffernan and the scores were level on two further occasions before Dunboyne made the decisive break.
Points from Robinson, Crawford and wing-back Colm Brennan left it 0-12 to 1-6 and was sufficient for Dunboyne to fend off Trim's late rally.
