Shane O'Rourke scored 1-4 from play as Simonstown held Skryne to a draw in this Meath Farm Machinery SFC Group B opener at Seneschalstown in Sunday afternoon.

The Simonstown captain's 44th minute goal levelled matters at 1-5 to 0-8 and revived a flagging contest.

Ten minutes later the same player had Simonstown in front for the first time since the eighth minute but the sides were level three more times before the end.

O'Rourke's first cousin, county 'keeper Paddy, levelled matters from a 45-metre free before Ian Davis put Skryne back in front from a placed ball closer to goal.

It was left to Shane O'Rourke to restore parity before David Ryan restored Skryne's lead in the 59th minute.

A foul on the game's top scorer allowed Wayne McCarthy close the scoring from a 60th minute free as both sides extracted something from this fixture.

Paddy O'Rourke opened the scoring for Skryne in the first minute but otherwise came off second best in his duel with another cousin, Michael.

Shane O'Neill levelled matters before Shane O'Rourke put Simonstown in front for the first time. The scores were tied three times in the opening 15 minutes.

Skryne outscored Simonstown by 0-4 to 0-1 in the second quarter. Kevin Mulvaney pointed them back in front in the 19th minute.

Further points from Davis (free) and Paddy O'Rourke (45) extended Skryne's advantage.

Shane O'Rourke pulled on back for Simonstown before David McGoldrick sent over to leave the Liam Harnan's men leading by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time.

Both sides could only muster a point each before O'Rourke cut in from the left for the game's only goal that set up a closely contested final quarter.
