Kilmainhamwood 1-10 St. Michaels 0-08 Kilmainhamwood advanced to the Intermediate semi-finals thanks to a hard fought win against the Kilbeg/Carlanstown outfit in Carnaross on Saturday Evening. Kilmainhamwood got off to a bright start with a Stephen Kiernan pointed free. Ray Magee opened his account for the day with a point from play for the Wood. He followed that up with a free. The Michaels fought back with a pointed free and a point from play to leave the minimum between the sides. Kiernan then fisted home to the net from close range after good set up play from Ray Madden and Padraic Owens. Kiernan slotted over a free almost immediately to open up a five point gap. Goalkeeper Michael clarke then made a good save from Daithi Regan to keep the Wood in the assendency. St. Michaels closed the gap with a pointed free. Magee hit over a fee for the wood to restore the gap to 5 points and soon after Francis owens slotted over from play to increas the Woods advantage. St. Michaels kept in touch with another free to leave the Wood 5 points ahead at half time, 1-06 to 0-04. Another free from the Michaels narrowed the gap but a Magee free cancelled that out shortly afterwards. The Carlanstown side responded with a brace of points of which one was a free.The Wood hit back with a francis Owens point and a Padraic Owens point to regain the five point advantage. Michaels then hit over another free and it was Kiernan who finished the scoring with a superb point from play. In defence Michael Clarke, Damian Cunningham, Stephen Smith and Sean Mulligan impressed for the Wood. In attack Francis Owens, Magee, Kiernan and Ray Madden shone.
