IFC: Relegation playoff for Drumconrath
September 20, 2009
Drumconrath's Terry Skelly
Gaeil Colmcille 3-11
Drumconrath 0-7
Drumconrath, already consigned to a relegation Final gift wrapped and handed on a plate the two points to Kells for this final round in Group A tie of the IFC with the conession of two goals of the soft variety in the st quarter of this game. Not content with that another goal late in the game after a dreadful mix up in their defense handed the Kells a third.
After giving Kells men 1-1 inside the 1st 4 minutes Drums did settle somewhat with Terry Skelly dominating midfield and a Leighton Irwin point after a foul on Damien Glass in the 7th minute seen them open their account. Drumconrath had ample possession but very little threat up front as The Gaels picked off their scores. Another goal when the ball was totally misjudged by a Drumconrath defender really finihed the game as a contest and while Skelly pointed in the 20th minute Drums went in 2-5 to 0-2 in arrears.
Kells started well in the 2nd half and pointed 3 times but Drumconrath battled away and points from Irwin (2), Alan Byrne, Skelly and Jamie Myles left the score 2-9 to 0-7 with time almost up. 1-2 late on from Gaeil Colmcille did not flatter them and they where the better team but the gift wrapped goals helped a lot.
