Wolfe Tones 1-12 Trim 0-13 Following a bye in the first round of this year's Senior Championship, Wolfe Tones finally got their season underway with a two point victory over Trim in Navan. Trim opened the scoring on 3 minutes. Cian Ward then pointed a free a minute later after Mark Coleman was fouled and the free was then moved into the 13m line for some dissent by the Trim backs. Trim then moved back into the lead with a pointed free from their midfielder. Ward then scored an excellent point at the town end when he kicked an effort over the bar from out near the sideline with ease. Stephen Sheppard and Mark Coleman then added two further points on 10 and 12 minutes respectively, Coleman's point coming from a blockdown in midfield by Sheppard and the pass to Coleman who ran 30 yards and put it over the black spot. Rossa McDonnell then had a great goal opportunity smothered by the Trim keeper who did well to get down quickly. Two more points by Trim, one from play and one free, levelled matters. Cian Ward converted a 45 on 20 minutes which turned out to be the final score of the half for the Tones. Ciaran McLoughlin then got a yellow card with five minutes to go for an awkward looking challenge on a Trim forward. Trim tagged on two more points to go in leading by a solitary point at half time. The first ten minutes of the second half were primarily dominated by the Tones. Two 45's were kicked wide by Ward, but then McGrath opened the second half scoring following some good work involving McDonnell and McGinn. The only major of the game arrived on 37 minutes when some excellent link-up play involving Niall McLoughlin and Mark Coleman set McLoughlin up to release a powerful shot which gave the keeper no chance. Three more Trim points in a four minute period left the teams level again. McGrath kicked over another point on 43 minutes but Trim went back up the field almost immediately, drew the free and the sides were even again. Eoghan Harrington then added another point on 46 minutes before the Trim wing back equalised once more. The Tones added a further two points on 21 and 23 minutes, with Niall McLoughlin and Sheppard doing the scoring. The sides were level for the final time on the 25th minute, 1-10 to 0-13. Ward added another point on 57 minutes and then Niall McLoughlin finished off the day's scoring with another superb point, following a run from the half way line just on the stroke of full time. Best on the day for the Tones were the two McLoughlins and Harrington in midfield.
