Kilmainhamwood beat local rivals Gaeil Colmcille in a hard hitting Division 3 affair on Sunday afternoon in the Wood.
The home side opened the scoring through half forward David Russell to which the Kells based side responded with a point. Russell scored a free and Kells got a pointed free. Two frees for the Wood from Russell and Ray Magee gave them a two point lead for the first time in a game. The sides hit a free apiece with the Wood's coming from Magee. Kells responded with three unanswered points. Russell then hit another free to leave the game level at half time, 0-6 each.
The Wood started off brightly in the second half with a point from half back Sean Mulligan followed shortly after by a converted penalty from Russell. Kells were then reduced to 14 men when one of their midfielder was sent off for a second yellow. The home side streched their lead to 6 points with Magee and Russell scoring a point apiece. Kells then hit 3 points in a row, Russell hit another free to leave 4 points between the sides. Kells then got a point and a goal to leave the game a draw with only a few minutes remaining.
The Wood responded with a free through sub Aidan Crosbie and a 45 from centre forward Ken Russell. Kells hit another point to leave the minimum between the sides. However they could not get the equalising score.
Best on the day for the Wood were David Russell, Padraig Owens, Damien Cunningham and Harry Corbally.
