SFC: Blackhall ease past Dunshaughlin
September 08, 2008
Tadgh Brosnan scored 9 points for Blackhall Gaels
Blackhall Gaels 1-13
Dunshaughlin 0-7
Dunshaughlin started the game off better taking a two point lead in the early stages before Blackhall got back in with two points within two minutes, one from a Tadhg Brosnan free kick and one from the boot of Sean Whealan. The teams swapped a wide over the next period before the black and yellows took the lead again from a placed kick. Blackhall answered immediately though with a point from midfielder, Mark Mullally.
The last ten minutes saw the Gaels pull away though. Dunshaughlin did have their chances but pulled three wide. Three of the remaining points of the half where from Tadhg Brosnan's free kicks though Andy Brady's point from play was well taken as Blackhall led by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break.
The first significant item of the second was a double substitution for Blackhall Gaels. Two county players came on, Anthony Moyles and Alan Nestor. Moyles' influence in midfield was almost immediate. The Gaels started to find space and the forwards took advantage. A point from the free kick of Brosnan put them five points ahead. Further reward for improved movement was a goal from Sean Whealan.
It was then Dunshaughlin's turn to make a move. They pulled the eight point lead down to five in three minutes and could have brought it to three but put two shots wide. The scores came from Martin Reilly, Niall Kelly and Cathal O'Dwyer.
Then came the point of the game. Tadhg Brosnan found space on the right wing, beat his man and slotted the ball over from distance with his left foot. Andy Brady wasn't going to be left out though. He placed the ball over the bar a minute later.
The game was over at this stage. Dunshaughlin tried for goals. In fact they probably tried too hard, conceding three more frees in range and picking up two yellow cards. The three frees were punished by Brosnan.
Blackhall Gaels will be happy with their second half performance. Five strong subs where used and all came on and did their jobs well. This shows a healthy depth in the squad.
