Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-13 St. Patrick's 1-07 Donaghmore Ashbourne qualified for the quarter-finals of the SFC after a much improved performance against St. Patrick's. The Intermediate Champions got off to a perfect start when Meath minor Andrew Tormey put the Croke Park disappointment behind him when his long range effort dropped into the net within the first minute. He added a point from a free two minutes later and from that point on Donaghmore Ashbourne looked in control. Donaghmore Ashbourne led by 2-2 to 0-2 coming to the end of the first quarter with Kevin Lanigan scoring the second goal from a well worked move. St. Patrick's did reduce the deficit with four unanswered points but Donaghmore Ashbourne finished the half strong with three points from Eoin Reilly, David Morgan and Eoin Carroll and led by 2-5 to 0-6 at half time. After the restart Donaghmore Ashbourne managed to extend their lead when they registered five further points without reply. Reilly, Carroll, Morgan (with two) and Martin Lynch raised the white flag before St Patrick's replied with a free on 44 minutes. The final quarter saw our Donaghmore Ashbourne score three points but although Padraig Durkan pulled off a good save he was beaten on 55 minutes with a close range shot. Both sides traded points in the closing minutes but the Intermediate Champions held out to book a place in the last eight. It was a good all round team performance and was much improved on previous outings. Donaghmore Ashbourne now face last year's beaten finalist, Navan O'Mahony's in the quarter final next Tuesday.
