Connacht club SFC: Ballagh' come good in second half
November 12, 2012
Ballaghaderreen (Mayo) 1-15
Curry (Sligo) 1-7
Ballaghaderreen came from two points down at half-time to run out easy winners over 14-man Curry in yesterday's AIB Connacht SFC semi-final at Elvery's McHale Park.
Fortunate to trail by 0-6 to 1-5 at the break, the Mayo champions scored an unanswered 1-7 in a devastating third quarter display to leave their Sligo counterparts down and out. Curry's misery was compounded by the 40th minute dismissal of centre back John Feeney, but even before then the tide had turned decisively in Ballaghaderreen's favour with a brilliant goal from their outstanding midfielder James Kilcullen and points from Barry Kelly, Peter Kelly and three from man of the match Barry Regan putting them firmly in the driving seat.
A shell-shocked Curry team had to wait until the 47th minute for their first score of the second half from Adrian Marren before Regan closed the game out with late scores for the winners, who can now look forward to a provincial final showdown with holders St. Brigid's in a fortnight's time.
Curry created at least three goal chances in the opening half, but only took one when Marren netted in the sixth minute. Regan, who finished with 0-8 to his name, kept Ballaghaderreen in touch before they took over after the restart.
