NFL 4: Longford battle back
February 06, 2011
Longford 1-7
Roscommon 0-10
Longford battled gamely to take a draw with Connacht champions Roscommon in Sunday's Allianz National Football League Division 4 opener at Pearse Park.
The visitors had been on course to take the spoils after an evenly matched first joust of the NFL campaign.
They led by three at the change of ends with John Rogers pushing his side into that advantage with well-struck frees.
Paul Barden's unstoppable goal midway through the second half brought Longford right back into it and Sean McCormack struck five points on the day for the home side, including a fantastic free with virtually the last kick of the game to secure a point.
It was a fine result for Longford on a day when a lot of things went against them, notably the potentially serious injuries which saw goalkeeper Damien Sheridan and centre half back Enda Williams depart the fray.
