July 03, 2010

Longford's Joe O'Brien breaks away from Danny Cullen of Donegal dury the Lory Meagher Cup final at Croke Park - INPHO
Longford 1-20
Donegal 1-12

Longford's ace marksman Garrett Ghee was to the fore yet again as the Midlanders were eight-point winners over 14-man Donegal in the Lory Meagher Cup final.

Ghee was regularly on target and the task was made all that easier for his side after Donegal lost full back Colm Breathnach to a second yellow card with not even ten-minutes on the clock.

Longford led by 0-12 to 0-7 at the break having led by four points early on, but Donegal were not willing to give up and a couple of scores from the impressive Danny Cullen had the deficit down to a point on the 20 minute mark, before Longford finished the half strongly.

On the restart there was plenty of excitement as Longford had a penalty saved with Declan Tanner's shot batted out and moments later Donegal made the most of that let off with a goal of their own.

Paddy Hannigan was first t a breaking ball to fire to the net and when Donegal followed up with a point, just a solitary point separated the sides once more.

The game was up for grabs at this point and it was Ghee who intervened to wrestle control of the tie for Longford.

He fired in a goal and a flurry of points from the corner forward had the game wrapped up.
