Aussies have their eye on Ryan

July 04, 2008
Rising Limerick star Ian Ryan is the latest player to attract attention from Aussie Rules representatives. The 19-year-old St Senan's clubman is understood to have been approached by an agent and is set to participate in trials next month. The attacker was one of the Treaty County's top performers in the recent SFC matches against Tipperary and Cork, despite this being his debut season. At full forward, Ryan was the star man for the county minors who were beaten by Kerry after a replay last year and played for both the Limerick seniors and U21s this term. He could become the first Limerick man to play professional football Down Under. While it represents a great personal opportunity for the player, GAA chiefs are alarmed at the manner in which the best young talent is being targeted by the Aussies.
