Leitrim's championship hopes have been dealt a crushing blow with the news that ace free-taker Emlyn Mulligan has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season.
The Melvin Gaels clubman's worst fears were realised earlier this week when scans revealed he has suffered a cruciate knee injury which will require surgery and keep him out of the game for up to nine months.
The former Sligo Rovers soccer star made a huge impression in what was his first championship campaign last year, and had notched up 1-34 in six NFL games this season before disaster struck when he injured his knee in a recent club game.
Mickey Moran's side face Roscommon in their Connacht championship opener, but must do so without their top scorer.
