Ronan Clarke has stepped down as Armagh ladies football manager after only season in charge.

The 2002 All-Ireland winning full forward, who made a full recovery from a serious head injury he sustained in a freak accident while playing for his club Pearse Og in 2014, succeeded James Daly in the role almost a year ago, but was left frustrated after the Orchard County suffered defeats to Monaghan and Waterford in the Ulster and All-Ireland championships respectively.

He posted the following message on Facebook: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in the Armagh ladies set up last year. It was a great honour to manage a wonderful group of ladies who strive to be the best at everything they do.

"I would like to thank Lisa Woods for all her hard work and patience a wonderful coach who has a bright future within the GAA.

"I would also like to thank Sinead Reel whose negotiation and organisation skills where always tested to the limit but I have to say she always delivered. A great ambassador for the game and I can't thank her enough.

"To the County Board who left no stone unturned in a quest to bring out the best in Armagh Ladies Football. Lastly the players who showed great dedication and commitment. It was a pleasure to work with you all and I wish you all the best for the future."
