Cappawhite - Tipperary senior ladies championship winners
COUNTY TIPPERARY LADIES FOOTBALL SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Cappawhite 3-9 Brian Borus 0-7
Brian Borus and Cappawhite Ladies Football Teams travelled to Monroe, Clonmel last Saturday to compete in the County Senior Championship Final. Conditions were excellent with a beautiful September's summer evening and an immaculate field thanks to the Moyle Rovers Club and Pat O'Connor. Cappawhite succeeded in winning their third County Final row thanks to a hat trick of goals from Sinéad Buckley.

The game began at a fast pace with Mairead Morrissey scoring a point from Brian Borus straight from the throw-in followed by a pointed free a minute later. Sheelagh Carew, Cappawhite started their scoring in the fourth minute with a point but they did not register another point until the twelfth minute by which time Brian Borus has managed to score five points. In the fourteenth minute Patricia Hickey, Brian Borus added another point from play to stretch the lead for Brian Borus to 0-6 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter. Cappawhite gradually settled into the game with two quick points in the sixteenth and eighteenth minute before taking the lead in the 24th minute as Sinéad Buckley scored a goal. Neither team scored again before the half time whistle blew with Cappawhite in front by a point - Cappawhite 1-4 Brian Borus 0-6.

Supporters of both teams expected an exciting second half but alas this was not to be. Cappawhite raced in to a three point lead soon after the second half began and this was followed by another goal from Sinéad Buckley in the eighth minute stretched Cappawhite's lead to five points. Brian Borus had no reply to this and in the forty fifth Sinéad Buckley netted the ball again. Brian Borus tried valiantly to engineer a comeback but could make no headway against the resolute Cappawhite back line. Cappawhite added another three points in the final quarter to run out winners on a full-time score of Cappawhite 3-9 Brian Borus 0-7.

Cappawhite will look forward to meeting the Waterford Club representatives on the 5th October. The Waterford Final will be played next weekend - Ballymac v Comeragh Rangers. Tipperary Ladies Football would like to thank All Ireland Scor Solo Song Singer Sinead Grant for her excellent rendition of Amhran na bhfiann before the game and to Malachy Cairns who entertained the supporters at half time with his accordion.

MUNSTER CLUB INTERMEDIATE CLUB QUARTER FINAL
Aherlow (Tipperary) 4-11 v Scartaglin (Kerry) 2-12
Doneraile 14/09/13 12-30pm

From the throw in on a beautiful sunny Sunday, this was a tightly fought and very intense encounter.  Eileen O'Connor from Scartaglin got the two opening points and then Edel Hanley pointed a free for Aherlow.  This was followed by a goal from Katie Crowe for the Tipperary side.  Scartaglin responded with two more points, one from play and one from a free.  Edel Hanley then scored a great point from just inside the 45.  Aine Staunton hit a long shot which was mishandled by the goalie and Katie Crowe was there to bury it in the back of the net leaving the score Aherlow 2-2 to 0-4 for the Kerry team half way through the first half.

Some good passing between Scartaglin's Mary Herlihy and Margaret Fitzgerald resulted in an extra point, but coming into the interval Aherlow had stretched their lead to eight points including a goal from Maura Condon, and looked comfortable.  However Scartaglin resumed the attack and were rewarded with two quick goals making a half time score of Aherlow 3-7 Scartaglin 2-8 setting things up for a huge struggle in the second half.

The half opened with three early points, two for Aherlow and one from Scartaglin.  A long period of relentless Kerry pressure on the Aherlow backs followed which yielded Scartaglin 3 points and levelled the score with ten minutes to go.  Aherlow then dug deep and scored two points from Edel Hanley and Siobhan Condon.  Edel Hanley topped a great performance by scoring a goal on the twenty sixth minute leaving the Tipperary club five points ahead.  Scartaglin resumed their attack and threw everything forward in the closing stages.  They went for a goal from three frees, all of which were cleared by the hardworking Aherlow defence which was outstanding throughout.  Finally the pressure was relieved by the final whistle leaving Aherlow the winners by 4-11 to 2-12.  Aherlow will play the Limerick champions in the Munster semi final on October 5th.
