May 24, 2012
Slane 3-7
Dunboyne B 2-6

Played in Dunboyne on May 23

If ever there was a game to take the breath away this was it. If ever a team showed bravery and honesty then it was this Slane team. They battled from the first whistle to the last but in a dramatic finale two brilliant goals by Chantelle Kealy and Caoimhe O'Hare gave Slane the win they needed to keep their hopes of a semi-final place alive.

It was nip and tuck all the way through. Slane missed a few chances in the first half and a Dunboyne goal put them in the driving seat as half-time approached. Leah Mullen converted a free, but it was the home side who led by 1-4 to 0-2 at the break.

Slane started the second half in determined fashion. Cerys Hughes had the game of her life at No 3 while Emma Robinson and Mia Lynch were on top in the half-back line. But against the run of play Dunboyne got a second goal to go seven points clear.

It was then that Sane showed great courage. Caoimhe McKenna led the charge from midfield and rifled home a goal to put Slane right back in it. Chantelle Kealy, Caoimhe McKenna and Leah Mullen had points then to reduce the home side's lead to two points with less than five minutes left.

Subs Maia Searle and Rhianon Hughes came in to provide fresh legs for Eve McDonagh and Jade Lynch, who had worked very hard in attack.

Then came the dramatic conclusion. Chantelle Kealy got possession and placed a left-footed shot in the corner to put Slane ahead for the first time in the game. Then Caoimhe McKenna struck for another goal in the last minute, showing great skill to break through the defence from midfield and finish to the net and seal the win.
