Galway Ladies football update
May 07, 2012
The minors lost out in their Connacht final against Mayo on Saturday evening in Ballyhaunis, following a thrilling game which ended 4-10 to 3-12.
Goals from Roisin Leonard and Shaunagh Jackson were not enough as Galway hit eight second half wides, and Mayo goalkeeper Aisling Tarpey produced a match-winning performance to give them an All-Ireland semi-final berth.
The under-14's had a huge win over Sligo on Saturday in Milltown and now they are in the 'B' Connact final against Leitrim on Saturday, at a time and venue to be confirmed.
The under-14 blitz which was due to take place in Belclare on Monday was cancelled due to weather conditions.
As for the Galway senior side, all eyes are on their National Football League Division 2 final against Mayo on Saturday at Parnell Park at 3pm. Both of these sides were relegated from Division One last season, and only the winner will be promoted back to the top flight.
Manager Con Moynihan will be without Gillian O'Connor and Fabienne Cooney with long-term knee injuries, and is otherwise hopeful to have a full squad to choose from.
Moynihan said "We looking forward to showing our full potential this time around against Mayo. The first match against them earlier in the year was not a fair reflection on where we are at. We are looking forward to it."
The match will be televised live on TG4 and there will also be updates on Galway Bay FM throughout the afternoon.
