Slane U12 girls lose out to Na Fianna

May 03, 2012
Na Fianna 2-8
Slane 1-4

Slane made the long trek across County Meath to face Na Fianna on Wednesday May 2 and the trek took its toll on the girls as they had a slow start to the game.

The home team were much quicker out of the blocks but found Tara Mullen in no mood to concede. Three times the Na Fianna girls broke through on goal and each time Tara foiled them with brilliant saves. On several other occasions there was great fearless defending from Aoife Mooney to deny Na Fianna.
Slane trailed by 0-5 to 0-0 at the break and two quick goals after half-time looked to have the girls staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat.
But we have seen with this team before that they have a great fighting spirit and led by Mia Lynch - who had a great game from start to finish - the fightback started as Slane scored 1-4 without reply.

Maia Searle and Rhianon Hughes got the scores and Katie Kealy was unlucky not to find the net too in the second half. In the end, Slane were beaten by the clock but the girls left the field very encouraged by their second half display and will be chomping at the bit now for the nxt game, against Ratoath on Tuesday.

Slane team: Tara Mullen, Aoife Mooney, Rebecca Gorman, Eva Salerno, Niamh Murtagh, Bella Salerno, Andrea Carroll, Rhianon Hughes, Maia Searle, Mia Lynch, Hanna Cooke, Katie Kealy, Holly Kealy.
