Victories for AGB Junior and Senior Ladies
April 30, 2012
AGB Ladies were out in force this Sunday April 29th in Ballymoney, where the Senior Ladies took on Coolkenno, and in Donard, where the Junior Ladies defeated the home side. Both games were played in bitterly cold temperatures and with the added difficulty of high winds. The Senior Ladies used the advantage of the wind to press home their advantage against a young Coolkenno side. Early scores from Aine O'Reilly and Georgina Canavan settled the Arklow girls into a flow that was largely uninterrupted throughout the 60 minutes with every player doing her job to ensure a substantial lead at half time and ultimately a convincing victory. Caitriona Byrne, Jessica Hurley and Jessie McElheron controlled the centre field area for AGB and youngsters Annie Conroy, Ciara Forde and Chloe O'Reilly gained valuable experience at this level in this league encounter.
Meanwhile in Donard the Junior Ladies had a win over the host team in a fast and sporting game. AGB played against the strong wind in the opening half and despite Trojan efforts on the part of Mary furlong, Lisa Mellon, Molly Conroy and Lorraine Bracken and the safe hands of Sandra Byrne in the goal, the Arklow side conceded 0-6. With Michelle Scanlon and Leire Rodriguez battling in the centre of the field AGB piled the pressure on the Donard defence. The hard working forwards, Caitriona Bradshaw, Sinead Arthur, Frances Burke and Naomi Ryder, managed to score 2-2 and Arklow were happy to go into the break with a two point lead. The second half saw Arklow consolidate and extend the lead through the hard-working Sinead Arthur (2-7) and Michelle Scanlon (0-1) and substitutes Helena Healy (2-1), Lisa Rees (0-4), Mairead Hurley (0-1),) and Aisling Appleby (0-1). There were strong performances also from substitutes Fiona McLean and Marsha Mc Kay. All in all it was a great weekend for AGB Ladies. Now we look forward to the Minor 'A' final against Tinahely on Friday May 4th at 7.15pm in Roundwood. Go AGB!
