Slane U14 Ladies pipped by Skryne

April 30, 2012
Skryne 2-4
Slane 2-2

For the second time in a week the bounce of the ball didn't favour a brave Slane team as Skyrne recorded a two-point victory in windy conditions on Sunday April 29.
As the cliche goes, it was a game of two halves thanks to the wind blowing straight down the Slane pitch. The home side had the first score when Aisling Power improvised cleverly to send a half-volley to the net. But Skyrne hit back with a goal of their own.
At half-time, Slane led by 2-1 to 1-1 but were faced with the prospect of playing into the strong wind. Skryne had the best of the opening ten minutes during which time they turned the scores around to get two points in front.
But just as they had done earlier in the week against St Pat's, Slane laid siege to the Skryne goal. Moya Cullen kicked a neat point to reduce the deficit to one but then The visitors hit back with a point from a free.
Chantelle Kealy made some vtial interceptions in the closing stages as Slane drove forward. Alex Healy made darts from the half-back line to support the attack and twice Skyrne were rescued by excellent defending to deny Emma Robinson.
There were excellent performances too from Leah Mullen, Caoimhe McKenna, Laura Doonan and Laoise Reilly but sadly a winning goal eluded Slane.
