March 15, 2010
Under 14s DIVISION 1:

Sunday 14th March - Donaghmore Ashourne V's Seneschalstown 1-7 to 2-6

Seneschalstown's Under 14's started off this year with a narrow win over Donaghmore Ashbourne on a windy Sunday morning. After the throw-up Donaghmore Ashbourne got two frees in scoring positions and with the strong wind they didn't capitalise on these by converting them. There was a great defence by Seneschalstown for the first few minutes which kept Donaghmore Ashbourne scoreless. Stacey Grimes got Seneschalstown off the mark with a great long distance point and then converted a free to leave Seneschalstown two up after 10 minutes. Seneschalstown used this period well and kept the ball in there forward area for the rest of the first half. They got points from Jessie Brannigan, Amy Gilsenan, Stacey (again) and Ruth Cummins. Donaghmore converted a free just before the half time whistle to leave 6 points to 2 to Senechalstown.
Donaghmore Ashbourne had the advantage of the wind in the second half and used this well to catch up on Seneschalstown by getting a goal and three points in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half. This created a great last few minutes of this game and there was a goal by Seneschlastown and four points (one was a converted free) from Donaghmore Ashbourne. Seneschalstown got a sideline ball in the last 5 minutes and Aine Commins took it and passed it to Roisin who kicked this to Ruth Cummins, hand pass to Amy Gilsenan who gave it into an unmarked Jessie Brannigan who placed the ball in the back of the net to leave Seneschalstown two points to the better of Donaghmore at the final whistle. Best for Seneschalstown were: Gillian Sheridan, Roisin Cummins, Ruth Cummins, Stacey Grimes, Amy Gilsenan and Shauna Fitzgerald.

Senior League Round 1:

Sunday 14th March - Seneschalstown V's Na Fianna 4-12 to 0-5

On a sunny March evening in Seneschalstown the Meath league began for the reigning senior league champions. They started there defence of this cup well by beating Na Fianna. Fiona Mahon settled the home team by converting a free after 2 minutes of the throw-up. Senechalstown used there target of Grainne Nulty well and the forwards around her supported her well. After 15 minutes Seneschalstown were 1-4 up. Na Fianna got on the scoreboard from a free also but narrowly missed a penalty. A great cross field ball by Mary Sheridan found Grainne Nulty who raced past two defenders to blast the ball to the back of the net. At half time Seneschalstown were 2-6 to 0-1 the better. Na Fianna got the first score after the break by converting a free. They then got another from play. Fiona Mahon then converted a free after Aoife Sheridan was fouled by two players while fielding a high ball. Seneschalstown's third goal came from a sideline when an accurate pass from Mary Sheridan was caught by Grainne Nulty and then to the net. Na Fianna got a second penalty in the last 10 minutes and Anita McCluskey made a great save to denied Na Fianna from finding the net at all in this game. Overall it was a good performance from Seneschalstown for the beginning of the year.
