Top Kerry club Laune Rangers are desperately trying to hang on to two of their best known players, Liam and Mike Hassett. Club chairman John Clifford revealed that Liam made his intention to transfer to Dublin club St Anne's clear to the club management last week and Rangers are now worried at the prospect of losing Mike who works in Greystones, Co Wicklow. "I'll make no decision until after Christmas," was Mike Hassett's response when asked about his future club allegiance. "It goes without saying that Liam will be an incalculable loss to us," remarked chairman Clifford. "Players of his calibre don't come around too often, and he is going to be impossible to replace. "He has been playing with us since under 12 and has won honours in the game. I can certainly understand his reasons for wanting to change. "Travelling from Dublin to Kerry a couple of days a week during the peak season is an intolerable burden to put on any player and it has taken its toll on him." Needless to say, St Anne's will roll out the red carpet for the All Star centre-forward. "Since he took up a teaching post at the local Community College he (Liam) has been doing a lot of coaching at club and schools level in the area," remarked St. Anne's secretary Pat West. "His ability as a player is without question and the profile he will bring to the club will be a huge benefit to us un the coming season. On an inter-county transfer he had a choice of clubs, but Liam was adamant that he wanted to join St Anne's as he sees us with a very bright future and wants to be a part of any success we may attain in the years ahead."
