Kingdom rout champions
July 29, 2004
Kerry.............2-22
Waterford......0-6
Kerry ended Waterford's reign as Munster under 21 football champions with an emphatic semi-final victory at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Wednesday night, July 28.
Waterford's preparations had been overshadowed by a threat from manager Pat Nugent to quit after the county board had refused to postpone a West Divisional Board under 21 final which resulted in injuries to star players Shane and Michael Walsh.
Kerry were in rampant form in the first half and had established a massive 1-14 to 0-0 lead by half-time. The goal came after 20 minutes when senior star Colm Cooper fed Dan Doona who made no mistake from close range.
The Decies were more competitive in the second half, but Kerry continued to hold the whip hand and wrapped up an easy win when Doona bagged his second goal seven minutes from the end.
