Sports Award for Radio Kerry

Radio Kerry was yesterday awarded a prestigious McNamee Award for it's coverage of Kerry's 2000 All Ireland Senior Football Championship campaign. Play it Again Sam - the story of Kerry's All Ireland Final victory over Galway was compiled and produced by Joe O Mahony and edited by Cormac McDermott. It was chosen by adjudicators for the excellence of the general coverage in terms of match commentaries, for the interviews and coverage following the final and the homecoming celebrations. Speaking to Joe O Mahony on Radio Kerry following the announcement Danny Lynch, PRO of the GAA, said that the award is "a recognition of Radio Kerry's contribution in bringing the great excitement of Kerry's odyssey in last years All Ireland series, right up to the final and homecoming, to the general public in Kerry in particular." Paul Sheehan, general manager of Radio Kerry said that he is delighted that Radio Kerry's commitment to broadcasting the Kerry campaign to Kerry GAA fans has received due recognition. Joe O Mahony, who compiled and produced the winning programme, also expressed his delight at the great accolade. The McNamees are the GAA awards for excellence in communication in various spectrums across the media. It is the second McNamee award for Radio Kerry. In 1999 Terrace Talk - Radio Kerry's specialist GAA programme presented by Weeshie Fogarty and Eamon O Sullivan and produced by Paul Sheehan won the prestigious award.
