Kerry hurling in grief

April 23, 2001
There was widespread grief in Kerry hurling circles yesterday morning following the death of former county hurler Garda Seamus McIntyre in the early hours of Sunday morning. Garda McIntyre and his colleague Garda George Rice were killed when their patrol car crashed into a hackney cab in Cork. Garda McIntyre, who was from Kenmare, was engaged to be married. His father PJ, also a Garda, had been on foot-and-mouth border duty. Kerry PRO Willie O'Connor paid his respect. "He was a very talented nice fellow and extremely loyal to Kerry GAA from a young age. "No matter where he was stationed he always had the team in mind and this is the same for his whole family. All the members of the County Board and the Kerry GAA community are in deep shock and sadness at the news of Seamus' accident. "But we must not forget the Rice family, they are going through the exact same level of upset."
