Kerry go marching on

April 05, 2002
Kerry are through to the semi-finals of the Munster Minor Football Championship after beating deadly rivals Cork in a lack-lustre clash under lights at Austin Stack Park, Tralee. The Kingdom were full value for their 0-12 to 0-9 victory with midfielder Donnacha Walsh in inspirational form for the winners. Cork's post-mortem will centre on the fact that they recorded 12 wides over the hour. Ironically, the Rebel County enjoyed the better start and were two points to the good t through Kevin Hartnett and Colin Weste but Kerry finished the half the stronger with a hat-trick of points from Declan O'Sullivan, Barry O'Grady and Colin O'Connor to lead by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time. Cork never looked like closing the gap sufficiently in the second half and a brace of points from Ben Brosnan in the last eight minutes sealed the spoils for the Kingdom. Kerry: D. O'Sullivan (0-5), C. O'Connor and B. Brosnan (0-2) each, D. Walsh, B. O'Grady and D. Doona (0-1) each. Cork: C. Weste (0-4), B. Twomey (0-2), K. Hartnett, G. Hurley and C. Harrington.
