Munster club IFC: Blistering start earns St Michael's victory
December 01, 2008
St Michael's 2-13
Kilmihil 0-7
St Michael's/Foilmore came away with a comfortable 12-point victory from Mallow yesterday over Clare outfit Kilmihil to collect the Munster club intermediate football championship title.
A pair of goals inside the first 12 minutes got the Kerry champions off to the best possible start. Having taken an early two-point lead, Michael's full-forward Cian O'Connor was first to a stray ball in the Kilmihil defence and netted his side five clear on nine minutes.
David Ryan pulled back a single for the Banner champions, but Cian O'Connor and Sean Fogarty combined to setup Ronan O'Connor in front of goal, where the corner-forward made no mistake in blasting to the net.
There was simply no going back from there as the men from the Kingdom shot into a 2-5 to 0-2 lead for the break.
During the second half-hour, Michael's maintained the tempo as all six of their starting forwards would go on to register scores in the game to ensure the provincial crown was theirs.
