Sparrow expects Banner to turn the tide

Ger 'Sparrow' O'Loughlin is confident Clare can dig themselves out of the hole they find themselves in.

The Banner County currently occupy the wooden spoon position in the Division 1A table but O'Loughlin, who is busy preparing Kilmallock for their All-Ireland Club final date with Ballyhale Shamrocks, isn't pressing the panic button just yet.

"The Clare situation at the moment is a small bit of a worry in that we haven't gathered a whole lot of momentum yet," he said to The Irish Independent.

"It's early days and last year we managed to win a couple of the games and it probably didn't do us any favours later on.

"We are getting the wake-up call earlier this year. I think there is a fantastic group of players there.

"They have everything at their disposal, so I'd be surprised if we don't give it a good rattle and get back to winning ways along the way."

Davy Fitzgerald and his players welcome arch rivals Tipperary to Cusack Park this Sunday and the former Clare manager added: "Now, the league mightn't be great for us, but we have the game on Sunday against Tipperary, and that's going to be a game that will definitely show us where we are at.

"Tipp aren't going that well either, even though they've had that win over Galway.

"I've seen Tipp a couple of times this year, and they look like a team that's priming themselves for the Championship more than anything else.

"It's going to be important for Clare to get off the bottom of the ladder and get a bit of momentum going.

"They have a very good panel of players now and it would be a pity if they didn't produce something this year."
