Michael 'Brick' Walsh will captain the Waterford hurlers for the third time in his career next year.

The Stradbally man previously served as captain in 2007 and '08, and again in 2012. Jake Dillon has been named vice-captain by new Deise manager and fellow De La Salle clubman Derek McGrath.

Regarded by many as the best centre back in the game at present, Walsh captained Waterford to their first Allianz Hurling League title since 1963 and a third Munster SHC in five years in his debut season as captain in 2007. The following year, he skippered the Deise to their first All-Ireland SHC final appearance since 1963.

He first made his mark with the Waterford minor and U21 footballers, helping the latter to an historic Munster success in 2003. The same year, he made his Munster SHC debut against Kerry, when he came on as a substitute for Tony Browne.

'Brick' regains the captaincy from Kevin Moran.
