McCarthy: Replay will stand to us

Limerick manager Justin McCarthy
22 June 2009

Justin McCarthy was accentuating the positives after Limerick's Munster SHC semi-final replay defeat to his former Waterford charges.

Stressing that Limerick are a work in progress, the Cork native predicted that the extra game would stand to his side against Wexford in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

"We had to try fellas out, it's a transition period for Limerick. It's not going to happen overnight and those two championship games will stand to a lot of the players," he said.

"Sometimes the breeze is a help, sometimes the play is more open against the breeze. I felt two points wasn't much to be behind (at half-time), but our lack of scoring power and the chances we missed gave them the edge. Every time they went for scores they went over the bar."
