It was a good weekend in Dublin GAA circles as the senior footballers collected the Leinster title and star handballer, St Brigid's Eoin Kennedy successfully opened the defence of his M DONNNELLY All-Ireland Senior Softball title. Kennedy recorded an emphatic win over Wexford's Gavin Buggy in the Round of 16 meeting. The Dubliner, now bidding for a fifth consecutive title, went on to take the second game 21-12 and book a quarter-final meeting against Westmeath young gun Robert McCarthy. Elsewhere, Kerry's Dominick Lynch booked his quarter-final place after victory over Mayo's Joe McCann. Lynch took the first game in style 21-2 but was quickly undone in the second as McCann lifted his game to force a third after a 21-9 win. In the tiebreaker, both men had chances but it was Lynch who fired home on a 21-17 scoreline. Number three seed, Meath stalwart, Tom Sheridan was also I action at the weekend and overcame Dublin's Egin Jensen in two games. Sheridan took the first 21-9 and powered home to an emphatic 21-2 victory in the second.
