Derry vs Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

We are only a few weeks away now to this match now. Both teams had a very bad league campaign with Tyrone close enough to relegation and playing very poorly durn the campaign and then Derry getting relegated to division 3 and being in a terrible form. So both teams are currently in a bad form. If Derry do what they say they are going to do they could win but that's very unlikely. It depends on what form both teams are on the day. I'm going for a Tyrone win as they are the better team although they are in a very bad form. I'd do anything to see Derry get the win and shock us but time will only tell
Tyrone 5+

I doubt if Tyrone will take any championship challenge by Derry lightly and I expect them to come out of the blocks firing. Its hard to believe Derry will be as poor as last year so it should be a gripping game with Tyrone coming out on top.

Agree - as bad as Tyrone have been past 3 games they will still have enough against a relegated Derry side - it is a derby and there will be tasty challenges and Derry will raise their game but they just haven't enough to trouble a much better Tyrone squad.

yeah understand why tyrone people would be cautious, but a derry win would be a huge shock.

Hammering match, Tyrone by 10+ unfortunately as I think that Derry have produced some fantastic footballers over the years.

Barton and McGuckin saying that derry won't be bullied like they were last year and that they are in a better position. Barton and McGuckin always talk nonsense to the media, but this time I have an awful feeling that they are not joking around this time , although Derry were demolished in there last 7-8 matches against Tyrone I am very optimistic for Derry. You can't rule them out if this one although I'm still going for a Tyrone win.

Barton was out tough last year big Sean took Rogers a tour of Celtic Park and left big holes in the Derry defence
I can see a big win for Tyrone as they need to leave down a big marker after the way the league ended and show they are real contenders

Game will be over after 15 minutes like last year. Barton and McGuckin would be safer keeping quiet and coming up with a gameplan to at least give tyrone a game, have they learnt nothing from the 5 beatings they have got in the last 18 months?

Derry's "problem" if you want to look at it with county glasses on, is that to most Gaels there the club scene is more important than what the county are at. There is fierce rivalry, possibly more so than in any other county in Ireland. This often leads to conflict and for years Derry have consistently failed to get their best possible available 15 together and singing off the one hymn sheet. Now don't get me wrong, there would be no love lost when it comes to the rivalries that exist in Tyrone club football either. The difference is Tyrone have had an exceptional manager all these years who has been able to successfully harness all the available playing resources available to him. Derry had it for a wee while under Brennan a few years ago but it wasn't long before disharmony resurfaced.

Tyrone were probably happy enough to get the league over with and ensure Div 1 survival. They've been very quiet since and I'm sure Mickey Harte will have them buzzing for the Derry game. Can only see a comfortable Tyrone win by about 7 or 8 points if I'm honest.

Only a week to go now. Could be a better than expected, anything can happen as showed in the Cork and Tipp match.

Don't you think there's not bitter rivalry in Tyrone ? I hear it's brutal there - the hatred among some of their clubs has been around for years but they still are able to put the county jerseys on and park it for a while. Maybe it's more a mentality thing and they hold grudges more than other county players?

fortyfive why be worried, no disrespect to Derry but if we cant go and beat a team that has been relegated to Division 3 then we probably would'nt have done anything in the championship anyway. I am confident that we will go to Celtic Park and win, I think we are at least as strong as last year, with a Division 1 League campaign under our belts. Tir Eoghain Abu'.

That's two players now that left Derry in a space of a week. Not good news at all. So many players leaving last year and now this year, getting relegated to division three and getting demolished by Tyrone in there last meetings. If they lose this Sunday, I would expect Barton to be dropped as manager. Derry need change and fast.

I heard that Barton asked the players to not play any club hurling this year as he wanted them to concertrate on football only. If that is the case I wonder why the Slaughtneill boys are hanging around.

I see pat Spillane has had second thoughts (14 years later) about Puke Football.

This game sees the favourites for the provincial title playing a division 3 team yet the bookies have the handicap at just 4 points. Shows how competitive the Ulster championship is.

Hard working energetic half forward line. Scores will have to come from the half backs and full forward lines. I expect Tyrone to have refined their defensive game and hopefully put more scores on the board. I expect them to beat the bookies handicap of 4 points.

Alternative handicap of 6 points at 13/8. I fancy them to beat that.
