Jack O'Shea made a suggestion on take your point yesterday evening that the GAA should consider an open draw every 3rd year, without the provincial championships. He didnt really go into specifics but I guess it'd be 2 defeats and your out. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 30/07/2012 15:40:08 1233701 Link 0 |

sounds good but you want the best teams in final so seeding should be in place for the 1st round anyway DownStar29 (Down) - Posts: 172 - 30/07/2012 15:45:57 1233707 Link 0 |

Well I think it would kill it if you had all the big teams out after 1st round. For example Dublin v. Donegal, Kerry v. Cork, Kildare v. Tyrone and also in hurling. Just well would rather see the big teams in a final on merit rather than well London v. Louth in an All Ireland Final. The chances of that happening would be slim but then again if you had all the big teams playing in first couple of rounds it could happen. Seeding could be based on league position? - If you remove the provincial champioships you better have something to replace it. Many teams and build and win a provincial crown - Roscommon, Sligo, Laois, Westmeath, Clare (95), Ulster has various winners but remove that and being real - these teams and the vast majority have nothing to aim for but only get as far in the race for sam as possible. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12122 - 30/07/2012 16:10:42 1233750 Link 0 |

I love a novel pairing for an All-Ireland final. I cant remember when we last had one in hurling, probably Wexford v Limerick 1996. In football probably Tyrone v Armagh was the last such pairing. By novel with none of the real traditional counties - Cork, Tipp, Kilkenny in hurling, Cork, Kerry, Dublin in football. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 30/07/2012 17:08:58 1233840 Link 0 |
