i truly am sick of this provincial bias

if kerry get to all ireland finals i wont support them because they are from munster
likewise if a munster hurling team faced anyone besides kilkenny

im certain other people in munster feel the same towards Cork..even if Cork were playing kilkenny they would be up for the cats

I think I started a thread on this the day Tyrone lost to Dublin and pointed out the various schools and colleges and clubs that had won all Irelands this year, all from Ulster, even one from Tyrone.

You must have missed it.

Who would have thought just 3 months ago that Down making the last 4 in football, with maybe more to come, and Antrim surprising to make the last 6 at hurling, would have been it for Ulster at senior level? The rest disappointed, but look at the bigger picture.

Tyrone minors are still there and look a serious team. Armagh hurlers made two Ulster finals and won the Rackard Cup.

At club level at Hurling St Gall's Belfast made the intermediate final, and St Colm Cille's from Tyrone appeared in the junior final. In football Cookstown won the intermediate and St Gall's won the senior.

At schools level St Colman's Newry won the Hogan, and a few Antrim schools won titles at Hurling and camogie.

And of course Cavan and Antrim gave us world handball champions in Brady and Fiona Shannon.

So the grassroots of Ulster GAA is alive and ell and flourishing, and the state of the games and the association should not just be based on performance in the Sam maguire.

Perhaps this post is "getting my retaliation in first" before posters appear raving about two Leinster teams being in the football semi.

Ulster GAA is alive and well, in all nine counties.

First of all fair play to dublin and kildare on getting to the semi-final and lets not take that away from them . On ulster it was always good with football up there and antrim in the hurling and always good at club level.

Apologies, you didn't miss it, just forgot about it.

Anyone that stated ulster was finished obviously dont have a clue about GAA but to be fair when you talk about ulster you really only mean 2 teams. Tyrone and Down. Armagh are not the same force but will come again. The other teams are a million miles away from winning SAM. Harsh but fair.

I would say that is generous. In the last 5 years, since the great side of 2005, Tyrone have lost in the all Ireland to Laois, Meath, Cork and now Dublin.

None of those sides actually won the thing.................

Tyrone won the all Ireland Minor c division, at the END of August.

My post was at the START of August.

Rebeltrev at the start of the year you might have said that Tyrone and Monaghan were the two to watch in Ulster. Now Down are being mentioned and rightly so. It just goes to show how quickly things can change. Next year it is not inconceivable that Armagh , Monaghan or even Donegal could go on a blistering run. They all have the players and a new manager can often fire them up.

I agree with you when you say that Tyrone and Monaghan would of been the fancys from Ulster at the start of the year but i think Donegal, Armagh and Monaghan are a miles away from winning Sam Maguire. I just cant see them challenging for it for a good few years. This may sound harsh and its no disrespect to these counties but their well behind alot of the bigger counties.

Before an ulster team reached the final in minor and senior, and despite Tyrone exiting early in the senior, we all knew Ulster football wasnt finished. Even if there was no ulster team in either final this year we'd know this, just as if Kerry or Cork were both knocked out at the quarters we'd know that munster football wasnt finished. Things dont change that quickly!

But soon as ye get a team in the All Ireland final we have to start this thread, so that all the ulstermen can start some mutual back slapping, to tell each other how great ye are. Us against the rest. What a waste of time.

If Derry give John Brennan the job they'll be hard to work with!
Not good enough to win anything as they dont have the players - but will trouble any team in the country and will claim a few big scalps!!!

Fair point. Its just every thread seems to be the same. We all know ulster football isnt finished but we have a tyrone man starting another thread asking the rhetorical question. Its like me starting a thread "Are Kerry finished"- before adding, No they're not because x,y,z now cmon everyone and tell us how great we are.

As for ulsterman, if you want to see repetitive go to the Kerry county page and look at the "Will Jack O Connor remain on" thread. The man posts more on our page with this ulster nonsense than any kerryman.
