Another United --Barcelona final?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United will face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, while Arsenal will take on defending champions Barcelona.

Lyon will take on Ligue 1 rivals Bordeaux and Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan will play surprise package CSKA Moscow.

United or Bayern will then meet Lyon or Bordeaux in the semi-finals, while Inter or CSKA are set to tackle Arsenal or Barcelona.

after todays draw it looks set up for a repeat of last years final , I just hope the result will be different.

I think people are dismissing Lyon & Bordeaux far too easily. Lyon won 7 titles in a row in France and are CL veterans. Bordeaux are managed by Laurent Blanc who has them playing some superb football. The French are guaranteed to get one side into the semi finals and remember Monaco hammering Chelsea in 2004.

Isnt it due to posts like this that everybody views Manyoo as arrogant ********! I guess the fans will aready be brushing up on their spanish and booking their flights to Madrid, so dismissive of the oppostion and possible opposition are they, it gets on my fecking nerves.

United have a good record against Bayern, won one, lost 48 or something like that so no worries there.

however, Bayern only qualified on a dreadful ref blunder, and teams like that can flourish.

Both good going forward, both have awful defences.

Could be interesting.

Who do Arsenal play in the semi?

Brenda - if the opposition ever did or does anything to make us respect them, then we will.
(above is t.i.c. of course. You know that)

Brendan, I think that Fred is in the minority. Bayern are a top side and will be extremely difficult to beat. If United were to fall before the final this is the fence they are going to go at. I think that experience alone would maybe get them through to a final if they happened to beat Munich. However, I will not be booking flights to Madrid just yet

I hope United get to the final and I hope its against Barcelona again for one reason. So Barca can stuff them again like last year. An this time around theres no ronaldo. But its ok United fans, you have JS Park.

match uniteds squad up against bayerns and they are average. bayern will shock a lot of people when they hammer united. since the juve game bayern have been playing great football. eventually their squad (best in the world after barca's and madrids) seems to be filling some of its potential

News for all Man U fans...There's more than 1 United, you don't own the name.

In fairness United fans have every right to feel confident after this draw. Bayern were extremely lucky to go through to this stage, Klose's goal when 3yards offside proved crucial. If Evra and whoever plays right back can keep Robben and Ribery under control they should win comfortably.

The Lyon-Bordeaux tie is a real 50/50 one, and neither team will roll over for United. Ligue 1 is fantastically competitive this year with three points separating 1st and 6th. Having said that, I think United will be happy to have avoided Inter and Barca.

Arsenal's side of the draw is undoubtedly the trickier, but maybe playing Barca will suit them as they can play their own open style of football. I would fear for them against Maurinho's ultra-organised Inter. That Arsenal-Barca tie really stands out for me and could be a real goalfest, but I'd have to fancy Barca to advance.

Do you reckon they had Uniteds ball in the microwave for a few seconds before the draw was made? ;)

CnaD, since West Ham, Newcastle, Colchester, Leeds etc. didn't make the last 8 of the champions league I think it's okay to refer to Manchester United as simply "United" in this, a thread about this year's champions league. Note that none of the other remaining teams have "United" in their names. Good man.

so when united played milan pato became the worlds 2nd best dribbler and now its bayern they'v got the 3rd best squad in the world after barcelona and madrid (i thought you didnt like them?) ABU's out in force again i see. same S@#T different thread.
think the draw will be interesting bara arsenal should be good to watch they'l play the same kind of game and its also cesc's chance to show if he's the best of the spanish central midfielders! wont be going for either team think barca will win it ut will be great to watch.
bayern are lucky to be hear after the goal they scored but they took their chance and united wont roll them over easily but i still think united will win it. iv never seen much of ribery so looking forward to seeing what the fuss is about, ope he's ot as good as they say lol
