Do not agree with you there. Gooch was an excellent player and won his first AI against an average Mayo team. I was very close to the incident when he scored his first goal - he pushed the Mayo corner back and the Ref did not see it - pretty normal for Refs in AI's -just like the Murphy incident! DC is a very good player and has played against the Dubs just as the Gooch. I do not remember his marker in any match scoring 1-2!!

gooch has done it all. club county all stars, player of the year.generally regarded as one of,if not the best corner forward ever? very unfair on the young man who has his career in front of him to be mentioning him in the same sentence as the gooch. call back in 10 years and we will see!! kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 505 - 19/10/2017 09:08:15 2056148 Link 0 |
Indeed a lot of awards alright. However, just a note on the player of the year award which many top players never win. He never won the GAA All stars player of the year which is the seen as the official award. Clifford is only starting out and may or may not make the grade but that's for many years down the road. i see Clifford put in another man of match performance at weekend. will be better than Mikey Sheedy mayoforsam17 (Mayo) - Posts: 14 - 19/10/2017 21:48:02 2056376 Link 0 |
give the lad a chance. i remember Mike Meehan and Sean Armstrong getting 3 goals each in an u21 final. Both had excellent careers but Gooch was on a completely different level to everyone else. u need luck (injury wise), a career that suits and u need to continue to develop. a different kettle of fish at senior level. i think he is in the right county to develop though. a few minor medals won't give him bragging rights in kerry!! He will be kept firmly on the ground. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1837 - 20/10/2017 11:24:38 2056493 Link 2 |

is Clifford on kerry panel for next year? mayoforsam17 (Mayo) - Posts: 14 - 27/10/2017 20:16:19 2058696 Link 0 |
He is at the moment but jack O'Connor and fitzmaurice will sit down after the league and decide which team he'll play for either U20s or senior , if expect he be with the U20s though.

Think if Clifford ends up playing u-20's next year it will say a lot about Eamonn Fitz's personality because it will mean he lost out to Jack. as_ky (Kerry) - Posts: 535 - 30/10/2017 10:41:51 2059072 Link 1 |
I actually think playing with the U20's in meaningful matches would be better than warming the senior bench. Maybe put him in during the league and see how he gets on but he would be under huge pressure being put straight in to the championship panel. Whatever they do the players long term welfare should be the priority. It's a massive step up from minor where he had a huge physical advantage as well as being an unbelievable footballer. We aren't stuck for inside forwards at senior level either, so it's not as if he is desperately needed. Arguably a bigger conundrum for Eamon and Jack is Sean O'Shea, who was a senior panellist this year and will surely be pushing for a starting spot next year. He is also eligible to play U20 afaik. We badly need new blood in the half forwards and this guy is the best youngster in the county after Clifford. Eamon has to be given priority here in my view. Knowing Eamon he'll probably play Clifford in the halfbacks somewhere ridiculous like that. Also we should be looking at Michael burns and daithi Casey in the half forwards along with seanie shea. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 30/10/2017 17:29:05 2059135 Link 0 |
Casey a good club player. Not in same league as Burns and Seanie Shea

Ah I'd give Casey another shot to be honest, players can mature at different ages plus we're not exactly overflowing with half forwards in the county at the minute .

Looking forward to seeing Clifford in action next month. Will be a better player than Cooper. Reckon could win 7/8 senior AI with the crop Kerry have coming through. BartMcQueen (Cork) - Posts: 196 - 01/12/2017 08:38:35 2064180 Link 0 |
7/8 will be an under achievement with the crop we have coming through.

No chance of that, Croke Park and the State itself will ensure the Dublin machine will keep on winning. https://www.balls.ie/gaa/sporting-grants-breakdown-show-massive-weighting-towards-dublin-gaa-clubs-378685?utm_campaign=coschedule&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=ballsdotie&utm_content=Sporting%20Grants%20Breakdown%20Show%20Massive%20Weighting%20Towards%20Dublin%20GAA%20Clubs TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 01/12/2017 11:26:57 2064199 Link 0 |
So it's like the GAA are feeding the dubs fillets of steak while the rest of the counties have to go to the soup kitchen. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 01/12/2017 11:45:31 2064202 Link 0 |
