MacRory Cup: Colman's celebrate 18th title win
March 18, 2010
St. Colman's, Newry won a record 18th MacRory Cup following an impressive victory over Omagh CBS at Casement Park yesterday.
St. Colman's, Newry 1-14
Omagh CBS 1-8
This Ulster Colleges SFC 'A' final was dominated by the Co. Down side who had outstanding performers in wing forward Caolan Mooney and midfielder Conor Gough. Mooney's 32nd minute goal turned the tide decisively in St. Colman's favour after Ronan O'Neill had netted for Omagh in the first half.
With Gough on top at midfield, St. Colman's took an early advantage thanks to points from Chris Clkare and the Johnston brothers, Jerome and Ryan. O'Neill's superbly-taken 16th minute goal brought Omagh back into it, but two more points from Jerome Johnston gave Newry a 0-6 to 1-1 interval cushion.
St. Colman's never looked back after Mooney goaled two minutes after the restart. Substitute Ryan Lynch rattled off three points for Omagh, but they couldn't get closer than two points as Newry pulled away in the end.
