Kildare and Carlow progressed to the last four of the Kehoe Cup following comfortable wins over DCU and Longford respectively. Former Kilkenny All-Ireland winning captain Andy Comerford made an ideal start to his tenure as Kildare boss when he watched his side cruise to a facile 9-12 to 2-7 victory over DCU at Newbridge. The outcome was never in doubt after Mark Moloney banged home the Lilywhites' opening goal inside three minutes. A second major from Oisin Lynch helped Kildare to a 2-7 to 0-0 lead midway through the half and despite the best efforts of Alan Campion, the home side went on to lead by 3-7 to 1-3 at the interval thanks to a third goal from a Billy White penalty strike. DCU resumed with three points from Colm Coughlan, but it wasn't long before Kildare regained control and a 47th minute goal from Alan Burke helped to extend their advantage. It was one-way traffic in the final quarter with further goals from substitute Tony Murphy (two) and Paudie Reidy ensuring an emphatic win for the home side who will now face DIT in the semi-final next weekend. Ex-Waterford star Jim Greene was also making his debut as Carlow manager, and he too can feel well satisfied after a 3-15 to 0-5 victory over Longford in Longford. Carlow led by 1-5 to 0-1 lead after 30 minutes with the goal coming from Des Murphy inside the opening minute. The full-forward booted the ball to the net and had a second goal disallowed soon after for a square ball infringement. The visitors could have been further in front at this stage but for the good work of Longford goalkeeper Paddy Cullen, who denied Carlow three further goal-scoring opportunities during the opening 35 minutes. The Barrowsiders were 1-12 to 0-2 to the good at half-time and were out of sight after Seamus Murphy grabbed their second goal. A third major from Des Murphy made it easy in the end. Tweet
