ITB Senior Men's GAA Team won big last Saturday with their fantastic Trench Cup Victory

ITB (Institute of Technology Blanchardstown) Senior Men's GAA Team returned home as heroes this weekend with the Trench Cup! The winning team were well cheered on the day by players' families, friends and by staff of the college who witnessed a fantastic victory that completes a historic double for ITB who in the past few month's have also won both the Division 2 league and now the Trench Cup. ITB can proudly take their place among the GAA College's elite in the Division 1 league and Sigerson Cup next season.

With ITB's opponents St. Pats winning the Trench Cup twice in the last five years they went into the final as 4/5 favourites with Paddy Power bookmakers. ITB with the words of Graham Geraghty and Val Andrews ringing in their ears made a blistering start racing into a five points to one lead but St. Pats came back before the break to cut the half time deficit to just a single point. ITB made a blistering start in the second half racing into a five point lead thanks to scores from Robert Mc Carty who finished with a total of six points and Man of the Match Donal Lenihan, (Dunboyne GAA) who finished the match with five points but again St. Pats made a gallant attempt to reduce the deficit and had it down to a single point when time ran out for them. Eoin Woods (Colmcilles GAA Meath) lifted the cup for ITB making history for the college by winning the Trench Cup for the very first time on a final score of 0-11 to 0-10.

ITB Senior Men's GAA Team along with their mentor Graham Gerathy (Manager) and Val Andrews (Trainer/Selector) returned from Athlone this weekend victors with the Trench Cup. ITB travelled to Athlone last Friday to play in their first ever Trench Cup semi-final where they faced John Moore's University, Liverpool, (winners of the British Championship and 2012 Trench Cup Finalists). ITB came out on top in this match on a score line of 1-12 to 0-06 with the goal coming from Leitrim's Ciaran Gilheaney with excellent support in the forward line by Oisin O Connell (Cavan) and Adam Caffrey (Dublin) and some excellent defending from John Meehan and Eoghan O Connell. Goalkeeper Mark Ferguson also gave a massive contribution to the victory by saving a penalty. The following day on Athlone IT's excellent new playing facilities ITB finished the job and became worthy Trench Cup Champions.
