Robertson to fill Dublin vacancy

Former Dublin star Ian Robertson
Former Dublin star Ian Robertson is set to replace Mickey Whelan in Pat Gilroy's football management team.

The Ballymun Kickhams clubman, whose Dublin career was blighted by injury, is in line to replace the veteran coach, who stepped down after last September's All-Ireland final victory over Kerry. By coincidence, Robertson made his Leinster championship debut for Dublin under Whelan against Meath in 1997. His final appearance for the Dubs came in the 2004 All-Ireland quarter-final defeat by Kerry.

However, he continued playing for his club until last year.

Robertson is expected to be ratified at a county board meeting next Monday night.
