IFC final: Skerries are champions
November 07, 2011Played at Parnell Park as a curtain raiser to the SFC final, Skerries recorded a remarkable comeback to beat Cuala 1-11 to 1-10 in the end.
Cuala led at the break 1-4 to 0-4, a goal midway through the opening half from corner forward Conor O'Brien proved to be the ultimate difference.
After the break Cuala increased their advantage with a couple of points in quick succession but Skerries cancelled the good work out with two points of their own from Donnacha Reilly.
Just over 10 minutes to the finish, Skerries got what they needed when Mark Boylan fired to the Cuala net.
Skerries held a two point advantage approaching the finish but Cuala got back on level terms through O'Brien and Schutte, setting up for a grandstand finish.
Deep into injury time Skerries were awarded a free 20 metres from the Cuala goal, this proved to be the match winner as Harry Dawson made no mistake putting the ball over to win it for Skerries.
Skerries Harps will now represent Dublin in the Leinster club IFC this Sunday (13th. Nov.) where they will face Kilkenny Senior champions Muckalee. The winners will play either Coralstown / Kinnegad (Westmeath) or Confey (Kildare) in a semi final the following weekend.
